"Flair is a primitive kind of style. It is innate and cannot be taught.It can be polished and refined. When a person has flair, a grounding in the principle of design, and self-discipline, that person has the potential of being an outstanding designer."

Tuesday Tip {Inspiration Boards}

Making an inspiration board is such a great idea to help collect, organize, and analyze your ideas and thoughts before designing a space or home. The best an easiest way to make one is to first, grab a bunch of thumb tacks and a cork board. Next, gather magazine articles and clippings of rooms you like, pictures of pieces of furniture and accessories you like, paint samples and fabric swatches you like, and everything else that gives you inspiration. Then, try and find a common theme between all your pictures and items you found. Themes may include colors, design styles or periods, fabric patterns, finish options (metals, wood), shapes (circular, straight or angular), or any other common themes you may find. Last, design and decorate and enjoy!! I am in the process of making my own inspiration board to use when I hopefully get my own place after I graduate, I will keep you posted on my progress, meanwhile, enjoy the inspirational, inspiration boards.

Black, White, and Yellow all over

A black & white color scheme in a space is a very polished and sophisticated look, but at times this color scheme may become monotonous and somewhat too formal. A great complimentary color for that timeless color scheme is yellow. Yellow paired with black and white give a playful and contemporary quiet sophistication to a room. Pairing items in odd numbers, or better yet threes, is more appealing to the eye, so giving a black & white room a splash off yellow (or another color depending of your taste) will add interest and style to a space, but make sure there is thought in the placement, just not "there." I love black, white, and yellow together because to me it gives off a almost new age-retro feeling with a pop of sunshine, very refreshing and always a crowd pleaser. But caveat emptor, one must be fully committed to this color scheme and look and love it dearly before applying it, because of it's borderline trendy look, you might be "over it" before you know it!
